It’s just the first week of class…

Jun 16

After just four days after the official start of classes, I got sick.

A record-breaking event, if you ask me. Still, what a bummer to be sick at the worst possible time. On a Friday no less! It would have been more convenient if I was stuck in bed the whole day today rather than yesterday. I had piles upon piles of tasks to do and because of my physical incapacity, I have the burden for the whole weekend.

Then again, maybe (just maybe) they’re the very same reason my body forced room confinement on myself in the first place.

Don’t get me wrong. This will not be a rant entry. After all, I did sign up for the tasks I am taking for the day, with full consent and knowledge and I take full responsibility over them. I guess the pressure to actually excel in them got to me — more on the self-induced pressure since external pressure doesn’t really affect much as an internal one.

A powerful wake-up call that day turned out to be. Rather than exclude my physiological needs to accommodate all the activities that needs to be done, I should have a conscious effort to embed them in my daily routine. Much like an automobile — you really cannot get to your destination if you’re running low on gas and under-inflated tires.

A wireless world

Jun 13

I remember being in my digital communications class when my prof introduced the wireless power concept. Of course, it was an attempt to keep everyone awake since the lecture has been going on and on for hours (minutes actually, but you know students…). Then again, that’s how he is — he tends to digress until it is rather difficult to go back to the main topic at hand.

Anyway, I found this article detailing the wireless power concept (WiTricity) my professor was telling us about. Pretty amazing, if you ask me, although I seriously hope there wouldn’t be any severe side effects and trade-offs with the rise of this new technology. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise when the whole world would be wireless ten to twenty years from now.

To the team of WiTricity, I salute you!

The light at the end of the tunnel

Jun 09

Finally, the week-long registration is finally over. Technically, it will end next week, since the term ‘late reg’ is not applicable any longer. I am just relieved that my shift involves sitting down unlike walking/driving around the campus.

In a very surprising turn of events, I can graduate next April 2008 without the fear of getting delayed because of the minor subject deficiency! Wohoo!

Stupid reg

Jun 03

Ocean’s Thirteen hits theaters this Wednesday! But alas, so is Registration!

Although next week would most probably be my last first semester registration, it’s frustrating to know that you’ll miss this movie’s opening day (or even the following week days). I absolutely hate crowds so the possibility weekend screening horror looms. Oh well, I’d be happy to see it even if it’s late as long as nobody would spoil it for me.

I guess I have to contend with this long trailer.

Meme: Reasons to be proud of being Pinoy

Despite all the negative events that have plagued our existence, there are still a plethora of reasons why we should still be proud for being a Filipino. I have always believed that these reasons are way underrated perhaps because we haven’t given them proper acknowledgment. Although I have no articles to back my reasons but I’m sure many of you will agree with them.

Reason number 1: We are happy people.
Ha! Even ‘happy’ is an understatement. Festive suits the Filipino trait more. Amidst trials, hardships and sufferings, a Filipino wouldn’t say no to a festivity — no matter how simple or extravagant it may be. Although it would work against us financially speaking but the essence of always having something to celebrate is a grace. Hey, we could always rely on our innate sense of humor to laugh ourselves through group meals and coffee conversations as a fiesta substitute. :P

Reason number 2: We are a nation/race full of raw talent.
Should I even bother expounding on this? I don’t even know where to begin. We can sing, dance, compose, paint, sculpt, act, design, cook, etc. Even in the far flung barrios you can spot a great diva or someone who can bust a move. Talentado ang bawat Pinoy.

Reason number 3: We are emotional, spiritual and caring.
It’s basically our ability to detach ourselves from the physical aspect of living. We value family, friends and partners over material abundance. Our spirituality is mostly manifested in our religious enthusiasm if not in introspection. And we have genuine care for others usually putting them first before our own impending need. I think this trumps all of the reasons even if we tend to lose sight of logic in the process. We all know what’s more important in life and it’s best if our priorities stay that way.

I’m tagging anyone who wishes to be tagged. :)

Author’s note: Spoilers after the cut

Call me weird but it was only recently when I realized why only in Summer (June-August) do the most anticipated movies appear on the big screen. This is their time to lure the consumers away from their TV sets since most of TV series have already aired their season finales and will be back by September — or January depending on the network’s decision.

A few weeks after Prison Break, Grey’s Anatomy has closed yet another season and will be back by fall this year. Unlike my rave review on the former’s season finale, season 3 of Grey’s has become a real disappointment.

Author’s note: Spoilers after the cut

Ok, I admit it. I am a Prison Break fan. My sister had a copy for season one as a Christmas gift and it was just lying aroundby the DVD rack so I thought I’d give it a shot. It actually took me five days to finish season one and I have to control myself from watching the all the episodes from season 2 DVD (which was only 10 at that time) in one sitting. This series was very refreshing and entertaining that I even “forced” dear hubby to watch it too.
